Kate Ferris - A Manitoba-born songwriter, storyteller, actor and music educator, Kate has toured Canada and the U.S. with numerous groups, including the dynamic three-woman touring group Canadian Content Theatre Co.; good-time Celtic balladeers The Blarney Band; eclectic medicine-show gypsies The Critter Family; and those cowpoke crooners, The Rodeo Riders. Her latest collaboration is SMALL ROOMS (with James Hickerson and Bill Quinn, formerly of the Easy T's) a folk trio which has gained national attention for their witty yet thoughtful lyrics and intricate harmonies.
An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Kate brings her stories and songs to life for audiences from coast to coast, often adding guitar, banjo, accordion, keyboards and more. Her appearances at festivals and concerts have never failed to delight listeners of all ages. Kate's vocal and instrumental skills have contributed dynamism and musical depth to various recordings and national radio and television programs.
She has presented workshops on songwriting and storytelling, and is a long-time participant in Manitoba's "Artists In The Schools" residency program, where she presents "Sounds Like A Story: Storytelling with Sound Effects". She is also a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music's "Learning Through The Arts" program, developing arts-based curriculum units for teachers and their students.
